Jak w kilku krokach Odnaleźć Zespół

Trochę inna opowieść o przywództwie zespołowym

Author: Piotr Jankowski

I really enjoyed this book, despite it’s not widely known or even available to buy, but I’ve been working with it’s author, Piotr. I was participating few sessions/trainings with Piotr and reading this book was for me like I’ve heard him again next to me.

Piotr Jankowski, executive coach and former managing director of Fujitsu Poland, in his book “Finding the Team” takes the reader through the personal and professional journey of a leader. Using the story of “Tomek” - an alter ego of many managers - he shows that true teamwork does not begin with processes, but with… yourself.

The author emphasizes that before we find the team, we must find ourselves. A leader’s authenticity, awareness of values, and inner coherence are the foundation of effective leadership. Without that, every role - as a boss, parent, or partner - can turn into a “mask” that distances us from real influence on people.

Main Takeaways from the Book

  • Team ≠ Group - a group is just people, while a team is also the space between them: relationships, attitudes, dynamics.
  • Trust as a foundation - it is the “oxygen of teamwork”. Without trust, the entire organizational structure collapses.
  • Contracts and clear expectations - leaders should consciously “contract” goals, rules of cooperation, and boundaries of responsibility.
  • Daily creation - teamwork is not one-off actions, but consistent relationship building, shared responsibility, and celebrating small wins.
  • Change is inevitable - a mature leader accepts uncertainty and manages the team’s emotions during transitions.
  • Agility - the key is flexibility and seeing change as an opportunity rather than a threat.
  • Leadership posture - loyalty to the team, care-driven intent, humility, and balance between work and life are the hallmarks of mature leadership.

I see is as a compilation of few other books, like: “The Five Dysfunctions of a Teams” , “Leadership and Self-Deception” , and probably few more, but thi one combines business practice, personal reflection, and coaching tools. Each chapter includes questions and exercises aimed at leaders and HR departments, making it not just a story but also a leadership development guide.

I really enjoyed this book. I know Piotr, and for me reading it I could hear his voice next to me. In a world where much is said about results and KPIs, “Finding the Team” reminds us that true effectiveness starts with the human being.
